Constraints on extra dimensions from precision molecular spectroscopy
Accurate investigations of quantum-level energies inmolecular systems are shown to provide a testing ground to constrain the size of compactified extra dimensions. This ismade possible by recent progress in precisionmetrologywith ultrastable lasers on energy levels in neutralmolecular hydrogen (H2,HD, andD2) andmolecular hydrogen ions (H2 ,HD, andD2 ). Comparisons between experiment and quantum...

If quantum fields exist in extra compact dimensions, they will give rise to a quantum vacuum or Casimir energy. That vacuum energy will manifest itself as a cosmological constant. The fact that supernova and cosmic microwave background data indicate that the cosmological constant is of the same order as the critical mass density to close the universe supplies a lower bound on the size of the ex...

We calculate the production of massive Kaluza-Klein(KK) modes via nucleon-nucleon gravi-bremsstrahlung in the early universe. Overproduction of these states would result in early matter domination and therefore a low age for the universe so it is possible to place constraints on the number and size of large extra dimensions. The constraints are stronger than those from Sn1987a.
متن کاملAstrophysical Constraints on Large Extra Dimensions
In the Kaluza-Klein (KK) scenario with n large extra dimensions where gravity propagates in the 4+n dimensional bulk of spacetime while gauge and matter fields are confined to a four dimensional subspace, the light graviton KK modes can be produced in the Sun, red giants and supernovae. We study the energy-loss rates through photon-photon annihilation, electron-positron annihilation, gravi-Comp...

Recently, a number of authors have challenged the conventional assumption that the string scale, Planck mass, and unification scale are roughly comparable. It has been suggested that the string scale could be as low as a TeV. In this note, we explore constraints on these scenarios. We argue that the most plausible cases have a fundamental scale of at least 10 TeV and five dimensions of inverse ...
